Description

This is a very nice copy of Classic Records 180g test pressing of Fritz Reiner’s recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on one double-sided 180g record. The pressing date is “Sep 26 1995” and is stamped “LSC-2364 B1/B3”. Please note:  this test pressing contains two different pressings of side B of the original album.  Both sides contain the last two movements: Ruhevoll; and Sehr behaglich (Das himmlische Leben from Des Knaben Wunderhorn – beautifully sung by Lisa Della Casa). Both sides sound wonderful but side one is lusher while side two is a little bit brighter. When I first bought it new, the record was cleaned with a VPI record cleaner and treated with LAST record preservative.  More recently it was recleaned with Audio Intelligent Fluids on a VPI cleaner and on an Audio Desk ultra sonic record cleaner.  It has also been demagnetized with a Furutech DeMag.  It plays with very little surface noise with only a few light ticks here and there over the two sides.  There are no scratches on the record.  I have only played the record a few times on various VPI tables I have owned (HW-19 MKIV, TNT 3.5, and Classic 4) using either Lyra or Benz Mico Ruby cartridges. The cover is a plain white jacket with the date and matrix number information stamped on the upper right corner.  The upper left corner of the white jacket is compressed on the corner and has about a one inch bend.  There no no seam splits or other disfigurements.  Only side one of the LP has a label which indicates it is a “Test Pressing” pressed by RTI along with the matrix information and date.  Side two has a blank white label. I purchased this new from Classic Records about 15 years ago when they were selling off their test pressings.    Multiple records can be combined in an order to save shipping costs.
