Description

This is the "London" Stereo CSA 2242 Box Set of Mahler's Symphony No. 2.  This is actually a Decca Record Company, Ltd. product which they marketed as London Records, Inc. in the U.S.  This recording appeared on Harry Pearson's the Absolute Sound magazine list of superior recordings.  The LP playing sides have been professionally cleaned using a VPI 16.5 record cleaning machine with dedicated vinyl wash solution, vacuumed dry and de-magnetized (Yes!) using a Furutech "DeMag" device.  I have 100% auditioned these LPs and they are superior.  Also included is a comprehensive music review with a comparative analysis of this Mehta/Vienna Phil. recording vis a vis Walter/NY Phil., Bernstein/NY Phil., Solti/London Sym. Orch., Abravenel/Utah Sym. Orch., Scherchen/Vienna State Opera Orch. and Ormandy/Minneapolis Sym. Orch on RCA's LP release.  The author writes "...excellent performance...music is powerful and emotional-not as wild as the Bernstein, nor as emotional as the Walter...closer to Mahler's original intent...the individual instruments come through with great clarity, particularly the percussion.  However, there is little hall sound or ambience~this part I disagree with.  On my system (played through Magneplanar 3.7i speakers), I hear significant hall sound/ambience in the usually expected proportion of direct to indirect hall sound.
