Mana Mana "Totuus Palaa" LP on Gaga Goodies from Finland ! Fantastic, evil, dark, demonic style vocals accompanied by relentless, shredding, violent fuzz guitar leads that are everpresent. Totally killer dark finnish punk destroyer.

Incredibly hard to find LP, but sadly, not in perfect condition (I never saw one that was, this is to be played hard).

VG+ cover, no creases or seem splits, but the cover stock is thin and there is where along the edges all around. I played the vinyl, and audibly it sounds Ex, but visually VG+... one side is nearly flawless save a tiny mark between the second and third track, that is side B. Side A has some marks. There is one mark across the entire side, and a second double mark (like the needle went in and out quickly) along track one and the first third of track two. I only heard the lightest of pops at a couple of points, but I'm trying to disclose everything about this valuable slab. Oh, the first three copies I handled had no insert so I thought one wasn't issued. I picked up a copy this past year that did have one, so I will copy that insert (it is just a double sided photocopy) for you.

Oh, I guess international postage is around $15.00. Plus if it goes for $25 or more I'll need to register it, not sure how much that costs.

Mana Mana was a rock band from Joensuu, Finland. It was formed in 1986 by singer-songwriter-guitarist Jouni Mömmö and lead guitarist Otra Romppanen. Their musical style could be described as a mixture of goth and death rock, punk and metal combined into heavy stoner rock and even hints of grunge.

The bands trademark was to use multiple overdubbed, distorted guitar tracks in their studio recordings, as many as 8-12 per track. Their heavy music was accompanied by haunting vocals by Mömmö that were sung in Finnish. Jouni Mömmö wrote all the lyrics for the group, and the texts often dealt with topics filled with religious symbolism, personal revelations, the apocalypse, death, psychedelia, insanity and stories of love gone wrong. The lyrics were often blaming - sometimes attacking Christianity - depressing, gloomy and mentally disturbed. The name of the band apparently comes from polynesian mythology.

Their career was rather short; during their original existence Mana Mana made only a few vinyl singles and one LP album, "Totuus Palaa" (engl. The truth is burning), which was released in 1990. Their inability to continue was because of Mömmö's deteriorating mental condition - he suffered from schizophrenia along with various other mental illnesses, had been in and out of a mental institute and became almost catatonic at some point, thus making it impossible for the band to create new material and to do live shows. One of their final efforts was to re-record vocal tracks with English translations of some of their songs from "Totuus palaa" in order to achieve a possibility of success abroad. These songs were "Totuus palaa" (retitled "Truth is Burning"), "Ilmestyskirjan peto" ("The Beast"), "Kuolla Elävänä" ("To Die Alive") and "Ketä sä rakastat?" ("Who Do You Love?"). However, Mömmö was already too deranged to perform and his voice was barely audible. The recordings weren't released until after his death on the "Complete ... Kaikki" CD compilation.

Jouni Mömmö committed suicide by taking an overdose of drugs on 26 October 1991. He was 35 years old.

I use the “Ryebread” standard for record grading, from the most excellent ebay seller “ryebread” (check out is auctions). It is:

I won't grade any record Mint unless it's sealed or brand new/unplayed. M- (Mint Minus or Near Mint) is my standard grade for a beautiful record or picture sleeve. EX means if there's a flaw on the sleeve or disc, it's very very minor... something noted by condition freaks (myself included). VG+ means a sleeve is creased or shows a ring impression and a disc shows cosmetic signs of handling. A VG+ record is one I'd keep in my collection without feeling the need for an upgrade unless it was a record I really liked. VG means "used but not abused"... your average secondhand store copy. A VG sleeve will have multiple flaws (sticker tear, seam split, ring wear) and the disc shows heavier wear suggesting the likelihood of moderate surface noise. Anything below VG will have ample recitation of flaws. Grading is sleeve first, disc second.
