Immediately after winning two Academy Awards for his score for Breakfast at Tiffany's, Henry Mancini wrote the score for the safari comedy Hatari! Directed by Howard Hawks with John Wayne in the title role.
»The first impression is that of a funny mixture of jazz and Afro-exotic, jungle drums combined with a classic bop combo. Elsewhere, however, the soundtrack opts for pleasing, but definitely Western jazz, only interrupted by the sampler "The Sounds of Hatari" played by African instruments, in which you can hear a nice-sounding prepared piano. The filmmakers probably hoped that Mercer and Carmichael's song "Just For Tonight" would be as successful as "Moon River" from "Breakfast At Tiffanys", but if something of "Hatari!" Sticks in the memory, then the incredibly silly "Baby Elephant Walk", which became the notorious musical abbreviation for madness of all kinds. «- AllMusic.com.
Now the music for the Paramount film "Hatari!" to have again, better than ever! Analogue Productions has chosen the luxury version - remastered by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound from the original analog tape, electroplated as a 200g LP and pressed at Quality Record Pressings. Then packed in a particularly exclusive gatefold cover from Stoughton Printing. A great title, a brilliant new edition. Out of the ordinary!
