In der klassischen Besetzung mit Mick Rogers 1975 aufgenommen, enthält "Nightingales & Bombers" neben Eigenkompositionen auch die sehr erfolgreiche Coverversion von "Spirits In The Night" von Bruce Springsteen. Der seltsam anmutende Album-Titel bezieht sich auf einen britischen Ornithologen, der für die BBC 1942 den Gesang der Nachtigall aufnehmen will und dabei die Geräusche von Royal Air Force Flugzeugen einfängt, die auf dem Weg sind ihre Bombenlast nach Deutschland zu tragen.
