Description
This is BJR 149. The 3LP set of the Verdi's RIGOLETTO as performed in Mexico City 17 June 1952. The cast includes:
Maria Callas-Gilda
Giuseppe di Stefano--The Duke
Piero Campolonghi--Rigoletto
This LP is considered to be the best sounding edition of this performance that has ever been released. Callas only sang this role on stage twice in her entire career, this is the first! The second was to be a few nights later. She is in fresh youthful voice and gives a heart rending performance. The discs even include some of the radio announcers comments (all in spanish, of course), as well as a short interview with Callas after one of the acts. The rest of the cast is good, but the main feature here is, of course, Callas herself.
This set includes an insert with some pictures, and an essay about the performance and the singers. 2 of the LPs are in plastic lined paper sleeves, and the third LP is in a plastic sleeve casing (no paper). The box is in good condition, but there is some discoloring at the top edge as you can see in the picture. The LPs themselves are in NM to VG++ condition.
