Clutching At Straws is Marillion’s fourth studio album and the final release featuring original frontman Fish. Issued in a glossy embossed sleeve with printed inner lyrics, the album explores themes of isolation, addiction, and disillusionment through the lens of fictional protagonist Torch. With its introspective tone and cinematic production, the album is considered one of the band’s most emotionally resonant works.

Produced by Chris Kimsey and recorded at Westside Studios, London, the album includes standout tracks like “Incommunicado,” “Sugar Mice,” and “Warm Wet Circles.” The original UK pressing features etched messages in the runout grooves and was accompanied by a merchandise flyer in some copies.
