Original 2-eye pressing of this fantastic audio version of McLuhan and Fiore's groundbreaking and visionary 1967 experimental book/graphic nonfiction, sampled by DJ Shadow, Towa Tei, The Kleptones, etc.. In an attempt to make his revolutionary theories more accessible to a 'turned-on' public, McLuhan tried to frame them in the language of popular culture and advertising; this unique album presents McLuhan reciting his theories intercut with electronic sound effects, field recordings, mass media sound bytes and samples, and jazzy psych-rock played by John Simon. The result is an amazing stream-of-consciousness musique concrete sound collage that is at once profound, absurd, and fascinating. McLuhan non-linearly talks about electronic media, globalization, tribalization, and the evolution of man's use of tools and perception of time, interweaving quotes from multidisciplinary luminaries like John Cage, Erik Satie, James Joyce, Homer, Socrates, Buckminster Fuller, Franz Kafka, Woody Allen, George Washington, William Wordsworth, and T.S. Eliot. This record solidifies McLuhan's status as prophet of the electronic age, his musings predating the internet (and even ARPANET by a couple of years) and echoed in the technological and economic developments of the late 20th century and early 21st.

McLuhan was a seminal educator, philosopher, cultural critic, and media theorist who foretold of a global village brought about by advances in electronic communication and became influential to Andy Warhol, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, David Cronenberg, Wired Magazine (which credits McLuhan as the publication's "Patron Saint"), and many others. • Fiore is a graphic designer who worked with Buckminster Fuller, McLuhan, and others on innovative book designs. • Agel is a writer who colaborated with McLuhan, Carl Sagan, Stanley Kubrick, Herman Kahn, and Issac Asimov. • John Simon was producer/performer on classic rock/pop albums by Janis Joplin, The Band, Simon & Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Gil Evans, Big Brother & The Holding Company, etc. • Other points of reference for this recording include Negativland, Jon Appleton, Pierre Henry, Ilhan Mimaroglu, Ken Nordine, Bruce Haack, Charles Amirkhanian, William S.
