ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP – a superb collector’s copy – from Lexington (LEX. 1004, from DG LPEM 18075, Japanese pressing, tulip label, mono – no stereo edition exists, with OBI) features legendary violinist Johanna Martzy in supremely eloquent renditions of Beethoven’s Violin Sonata No. 8 in G Major Op. 30 No. 3 and Mozart’s Violin Sonata in F Major K. 376, both recorded with pianist Jean Antonietti at the Beethoven-Saal, Hannover in July 1952.
Those not familiar with Japanese pressing would do well to investigate them. They often offer original artwork or, as is the case here, a perfect reproduction of the original jacket. The quality of the vinyl pressing itself is worthy of audiophile standards. Though this may not be the original DG LPEM issue, it undisputably delivers much smoother, and truer, sound.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears virtually as new – overall, this rates as a lovely collector’s copy. Note: I photographed the album while it was inside a clear polysleeve, for those who note the reflection appearing to come off the jacket's surface.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although the surfaces are not completely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really this is a very fine copy and playback is superb. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a lovely collector's copy.
