Artist & Album Description:
Marva Whitney was an American funk singer commonly referred to by her honorary title, Soul Sister #1. Whitney was considered by many funk enthusiasts to be one of the "rawest" and "brassiest" music divas. In 1967, she joined the James Brown Revue as a featured vocalist, touring Europe, Asia and Africa.
Whitney's first chart hit came with "It's My Thing (You Can't Tell Me Who to Sock It To)”. After recording three albums including “It's My Thing” and many singles with James Brown as producer and writer/co-writer, she left the Brown stable in 1969 or 1970.
Record Grading and Condition: VG (Very Good) Slight scratches but plays OK with some surface noise.
Sleeve Grading: G (Good) Some scuffing around the edges and age discoloration on notes side. White interior sleeve.
Label & Authentication: A James Brown Production. Released by arrangement with King Records. Manufactured by Polydor Records Ltd., London, 1969.
