Description
Original U.K. STEREO Tamla Motown press (cover indicating 69/01) of Marvin Gaye’s ‘In the Groove’ L.P. (Tamla Motown STML 11091). This is one of two Gaye Motown lps I have for sale this week and both are in remarkable condition. I genuinely believe you would struggle to find better (which is why they are in my collection in the first place!). I would say that both the cover and the vinyl are in solid EXCELLENT condition (more condition details below). The flipback cover still retains a relatively ‘fresh’ laminate sheen, which indicates it has not been extensively handled over its lifetime. The back of the cover is still quite white and this has evidently been stored in a smoke-free environment. Tracklisting:

Condition
L.P. Cover
As indicated above the lamination still retains a pretty ‘fresh’ appearance. The opening edge is not excessively frayed or knocked and the rear of the cover is still quite white (very slightly grubby but not aged brown so-to-speak). All these points indicate that this copy has not been heavily handled. Each corner has received a light knock and the laminate (particularly around the opening edge) displays some light laminate creases, which are a result of people handling the cover to remove the record (i.e. the cover bends very lightly around the finger tips). There is a light crease (approx 1 inch) in the top right-hand corner and another in the bottom right-hand corner measuring approx. 2 inches. These are all very minor points and don’t really detract from what is a very nice copy of the cover. A solid EXCELLENT condition.
Vinyl
The vinyl is housed in what I believe to be the original Motown inner (which is always a positive sign). Any collector knows that if you open-up and L.P. and identify the wrong inner that it isn’t a great sign! This inner is very flat (i.e. has not bent around the L.P.) and very white. Again, evidently hasn’t been handled much. The vinyl labels have limited evidence of spindle-wear but are otherwise unblemished. The vinyl itself is like the rest of the package – It is evident it has been played but it has been treated very well. There are a couple of superficial surface scuffs on both sides (i.e. with no depth to them) and hairline scratches are visible in places under an intense light (i.e. we are not talking about a copy whose surfaces are just covered with scratches as a result of being thrown onto a surface). I’m more than happy with a solid EXCELLENT grading and believe you would need to locate an unplayed copy to get better.
Concluding Remarks
A really nice copy and questionable whether you would ever feel the need to trade-up to a better copy. There are many 60’s lps that I wish I could locate in this type of condition! Please check my other auctions for a further Gaye Tamla lp!

Lastly, I endeavour to be accurate with all my grading. All items are graded under an intense light. I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years and I would describe myself as being conservative (I think my feed-back speaks for itself in this respect)!
