Description

An original 1st issue on Tamla Motown from autumn 1973 whilst charting. Matrix A1/B1 - 1st cut. Stampers 1MP/1PO - 1st mother. Note that the labels mentions 'EMI' in the perimeter text. It is possible to get the very earliest copies with 'Gramophone' - but this example is still an early 1st issue from whilst the album charted. Clearly the switch from 'Gramophone' to 'EMI' occurred during the initial chart run of this album. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover. We also have the original EMI blue text inner sleeve [correct for this period]. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In excellent condition and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a few superficial marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT level of playback with one slight deviation. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. If you're looking for a top level copy to deliver the warm and intimacy of this release - then take a close look at this copy. The audio is stunning and is certainly being aided by those early stampers. Very lush detailed presentation - difficult to find fault. I detected a few crackles in DIE TONIGHT. Nothing remotely invasive - it just won't play quite as clean as in all other areas. Even the final track on side 2 'Satisfied' plays much cleaner than you usually tend to find. Highly recommended - a real beaut,
Cover (Ex) Don't think I've ever seen a specimen with such pristine looking outer surfaces. It it were not for one issue I'd be going with Ex+...because it really is a thing of beauty. The colours in that lush gatefold presentation are absolutely bang-on like the day they were printed. No signs of fading or surface wear [this is very unusual]. The interior is equally gorgeous. Edge wear is mostly non-existent. The one issue we do have is a one inch wear-through patch at the top middle of the right hand panel. I've taped it up internally - so it's just a minor cosmetic issue. The spine is 100% perfect - I've never seen one quite that good.
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged. No splits though.
