Description
Here we have a Test Pressing of a 1979 Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson Spiritual Jazz ensemble session that Hank O' Neal produced for John Hammond. It has never been properly released, all that exists of this session are a handful of Test pressings. I have no idea whether any other copies are accounted for, needless to say finding another one in such clean condition is extremely unlikely.
The sound of this session is very unique. It has quite a range. At times it has mournful orchestral passages, at times it bursts into hyper-kinetic African rhythms with forcefully uplifting gospel vocals. Some of the ensemble playing is carefully composed but Peterson's soloing remains fierce and striking throughout. Diedra Murray's cello playing also stands out. It's a wonder that this session has never had much of a chance to be heard.
The Cover is a plain white LP sleeve with a press release pasted on the front (fully intact). It has very light staining on the back, but is otherwise in great shape so I'd say it's in VG++ condition. The record itself is in EX condition, many would say NM, it has light paper scuffs but plays without flaw.

Notes: Hannibal Peterson is to our ears the most exciting trumpet player in jazz today and this may well be his finest recording. Certainly no greater care has ever been taken on any of his previous recordings.
