Mascagni Leoncavallo Pagliacci Cavalleria Serafin UK Decca SXL 2253/5
Giulietta Simionato, del Monaco, MacNeil and others with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome conducted by Tullio Serafin perform Pietro Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana”, and Mario del Monaco with Gabriella Tucci, MacNeil and others with the same orchestra perform Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci”. A three record set, this is an English stereo pressing on the Decca Label (SXL 2253/5) The labels are black and silver with “Original Recording by…” at 10 o’clock, full frequency stereophonic sound fatband and logo, ffss logo, and a groove. The records are of excellent appearance and play and sound superb with a minimum of surface noise. The box has a small split at the bottom on the back; otherwise it is in excellent condition as is the libretto.
