Barcode: of the six copies that I have owned of what is my personal favourite of Matt’s solo albums, five have been barcoded 5 030820 014920 – this copy is unique in that it was the very earliest press in the batch produced to support the album's release in YR 2000, and has been pressed in purple vinyl and therefore incredibly rare.

Label: Barley Wheel

Release date: recorded early 1996, and due to label dispute and legal process finally released in 2000.

Rarity: super rare single album pressing released some four years after the last Mother Earth album, the double live album ‘the Desired Effect’, despite being recorded early that same year in 1996. This is the first record released on the Barley Wheel imprint and under Matt’s direct control, post extricating himself from his Acid Jazz contract and a long legal dispute involving the ownership ‘rights’ of this album.This album was pressed in tiny numbers in coloured vinyl!!

Condition outer cover: this is a single panel outer cover opening on the right-hand side. In grading the cover, I would point that this is a thin, incredibly fragile soft and thin card, and I would suggest nigh on impossible to source in a ‘like new’ condition! I didn’t think would be possible to find a more fragile cover than the one covering Matt’s 1995 release ‘Villager’, but this is even more fragile!?

Please note the following in my assessment of the condition of this sleeve:

Front panel: lovely flat cover with tiny, tiny amount of creasing as very minor indentations from the vinyl held within the cover.  Some minimal rubbing within the soft sheen finish through twenty years plus of storage, but this is a tiny amount near the top of the panel from the record. Tiny, tiny amount of corner wear in the corners. 

Rear panel: as per front panel, this is a beautiful panel and tiny, tiny amount of the lightest creasing at certain angles under light around top right hand corner only and a tiny amount! No real evidence of what is minimal rubbing on the front panel.

Spine: no creasing, and all wording legible. More or least ‘perfect’ and lovely and square with sharp edges!

Top and bottom edges: superb, no wear and rubbing under fluorescent light, and no splits.

 Overall, this is the best condition copy I have ever handled of this sleeve with barcode 5 030820 014920, and knowing how rare this and how fragile the sleeve is,  must be a final upgrade copy! Do bear in mind the record is now twenty-one years old and housed in a flimsy card sleeve, and at the time sold in tiny quantities on vinyl, so I doubt you will ever see a better first press in this condition!

I am grading the cover as excellent plus (+) condition if not better!!

Inner sleeve: soft generic die-cut unlined paper sleeve has no creasing and no splits and looks superb. I am grading this inner sleeve as excellent plus (+) condition.

Vinyl: I played this on my recently commissioned Marantz TT15 at high volume. Vinyl looks unplayed and stunning!! Minimum excellent plus condition if not higher! This is an amazing but very unforgiving deck for any record with any blemishes, and therefore a great test for all used vinyl’s that I sell. The visual inspection clearly evidences this has had maybe one play on each side. Extremely clean vinyl with minimal static and lovely and flat on my turntable. I have played this copy through and this was a totally stunning aural experience! I noted a few pops in the lead into the track 'You are the Healer', and a little bit of a one off 'crackle' on '72 Minutes to Switzerland'. This album has been played through and loud! I am grading this vinyl as excellent plus (+) condition.
