Matt Johnson 1981 BURNING BLUE SOUL LP 4AD
Here for auction is Matt Johnson’s debut solo LP, released on 4AD Records in 1981. His manager Stevo Pearce gave the disc to Julian Cope as a gift, and it was promptly kept safe in a thick clear polythene bag, ensuring that the item has remained much as it did in the early ‘80s. The spine is straight and unworn, and the cover displays no ring wear or wear of any kind. However, there are two marks of unknown origin on the rear of the sleeve, which is of the ‘Laminated by Garrod & Lofthouse’ variety. This laminate is also in perfect condition. The glossy printed inner lyric bag is also in similar clean, near-new condition. Both sides of the disc have just been played and here is the report. Side one’s opening ‘Red Cinders in the Sand’ is clean as is ‘Song Without An Ending’ until the fading moments when there is a pop. Another pop heralds the entrance of ‘Time Again for the Golden Sunset’, and these light pops continue for about 30 seconds. There is also a crackle right on the fade out. The epic final track ‘Iceing Up’ is completely clean. On side two, all the songs are clean and without issues. Many thanks for looking.
