Description
Up for auction here is iisue 4 of Matter, an ungerdoun music magzine from Chicago published in 1983. Matter was a pretty noteworthy zine--in spite of its gloss, it covered bands like Big Black and Minor Threat and Husker Du far more than enthusiasm than the wimpy nuwave stuff you'd normally see in fancyschmancy glossy zines. At least for a while--it started prettydamnedgood, but the later issues were pretty lame. This issue--one o' the early good uns--includes features on the Birthday Party, Rank and File (ex Dils), the Effigies, Flipper, Minor Threat (article by Steve Albini), REM, Shriekback, and more. Steve Albini's column in this issue rips on Jim Nash (Wax Trax), WNUR, WZRD, and Cary Barker for the sad state of the Chicago scene, as well as revieing records by Chrome, Broadcast, Playdead, Half Japanese (which starts with the lie "Oh, gosh. I'm almost speechless."), and Minor Threat (which starts with the clear-eyed observation "Oh, how the mighty have fallen."). Zine is in good, but not great shape. It has a light crease straight down the middle and some general wear and tear and dirtiness to the cover, but is otherwise fine.

If you win more than one item, please wait for me to send you an invoice, because eBay's combined shipping is almost certainly wrong, and if you check out before I send you an invoice, you'll pay an arm and a leg for shipping, whereas if you wait for ain invoice, it'll probably only cost an arm.
