PRESSED ON MID/HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL (150g) THIS COPY DATES FROM AROUND EARLY 1971, NOT LONG AFTER THE PINK RIM LABEL DESIGN FIRST CAME INTO USE AND IT'S HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL EJ DAY SLEEVE WITH THE ORIGINAL PALE BLUE ISLAND INNER SLEEVE (ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR USE WITH THESE EARLY PINK RIM PRESSINGS AND USED UNTIL AROUND 1972)

Ian McDonald - guitar, piano, organ, saxes, flute, clarinet, zither, vocals and sundries
Michael Giles - drums, percussion (including milk bottle, handsaw, lip whistle and nutbox), vocals
Peter Giles - bass guitar
Steve Winwood - organ, and piano solo on "Turnham Green"
Michael Blakesley - trombone on "Tomorrow's People"
Ian McDonald and Michael Giles were two of the original members of the King Crimson and featured on the band's debut 'In the Court of the Crimson King' (1969).
Both left the group at the end of its first North American tour in 1969, although Giles appeared on the second King Crimson album, 'In the Wake of Poseidon' (1970), as a session musician.
Two other King Crimson members also worked on McDonald and Giles: Peter Giles and Peter Sinfield.
The music on McDonald and Giles contains many of the pastoral and musically complex elements of King Crimson, but generally eschews that band's darker, heavier tendencies.
The song 'Flight of the Ibis' has a similar melody and rhythm to King Crimson's 'Cadence and Cascade', with new lyrics.
The album contains a guest appearance by Steve Winwood, playing organ and piano on 'Turnham Green' (Traffic were working on John Barleycorn Must Die at Island Studios at the same time)

LABELS: MINT/NEAR MINT
Clean, bright and unmarked labels - just a handful of spindle traces on Side Two, none on Side One
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both vinyl surfaces shine like new with just a few light hairlines and light scuff marks (which are more like pressing blemishes) visible under bright light
VINYL Audio: EXCELLENT+/ VERY GOOD+
Superb audio reproduction throughout - crystal clear, deep, rich and warm and my play check at loud volume found little to fault- just a little surface at the beginning of Side One (which soon disappears), some more prominent clicks on one of the very quiet sections on Side Two (the only major fault) and the occasional, isolated minor little tick - otherwise plays beautifully (which is a big ask for this LP with it's many very quiet passages). Overall, I would say, a very nice copy indeed and in my experience these are pretty hard to find
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT
Apart from some general light storage wear the sleeve is in fine shape with just a small knock to the spine (please see close-up photos) but all spine text remains clear and bold
INNER SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
The blue Island inner has some age related discolouration but otherwise, nothing to fault - no seam splits
