McDonald and Giles - McDonald and Giles
I am pleased to offer for sale this exceptional copy of McDonald and Giles' eponymously titled debut LP.
Both Ian McDonald and Michael Giles were members of the original King Crimson line up until they left at the end of the bands first tour of the USA in late 1969. The duos musical palette certainly takes inspiration from their earlier work in King Crimson but avoids the darker more melancholic elements that nudge their way into the bands early work.
Although not a commercial success, and certainly not well known outside of the die-hard Crimson fan-base, the album is simply fantastic. If you have never listened to it before, a complete audio recording is available below. A period music review reads:
"Giles and McDonald take the best of King Crimson and turn it into a highly personal series of sketches that stun with their pure majesty. If Debussy had been working within the confines of modern pop music perhaps he would have produced something like this."
Extremely well put.
This particular copy is a superb example of a true UK first pressing and would make a fantastic condition to any record collection.

Mother & stamper codes: 1 H / 1 L
The matrix numbers inform us that the vinyl is a true UK first pressing. In addition, the vinyl was produced from the first production mother plates and 6th and 8th stamper plates respectively (Island used EMI M/S codes). Consequently, the audio reproduction is simply fantastic. Take a listen yourself below.
The labels are the first variant pink Island labels with white "i" logo.
The non-laminated gatefold sleeve is the first variant manufactured by E. J. Day & co.
Completing the album is the original 'plastic bags can be dangerous' polythene lined, die-cut inner sleeve.

The labels are bright, clean and without writing. No spindle wear is visible.
Visual: MINT -
The record retains immaculate deep-gloss playing surfaces which are blemish free in bright daylight. Under the glare of a halogen desk lamp wispy paper hairline marks can be seen alongside an iridescent rainbow sheen. Truly fantastic.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +

As can be heard in the audio clips, the vinyl sounds stunning. Both lead-ins are silent. Minimal static can be heard in between tracks. There is great channel separation, superb clarity and exceptional dynamism. It would be virtually impossible to find a better example of this record.
Sleeve: EXCELLENT +
The original sleeve looks superb! All four sides are bright and clean without any hint of discolouration. The cover art is vibrant. Due to an issue in production the spine was off-set by about 2cm. Consequently the manufactures manually 'created' a new spine in the correct location. All copies I have seen have been like this. Otherwise, the remaining 6 edges show only minimal storage wear. The corners are strong.
Inner Sleeves: EXCELLENT
The original inner sleeve is in great condition.
Additional Details:
Before the audio test was performed the vinyl was cleaned first by an Okki Nokki vacuum cleaner (using L'art du Son cleaning solution) and then an Audio Desk ultrasonic cleaner.
After cleaning, the vinyl is housed inside a brand new mobile fidelity anti-static inner sleeve.
The vinyl will be packaged outside of the sleeve, both of which are stored inside an archival quality polypropylene outer sleeve.
The record will be sent via an insured courier in a padded vinyl mailer.
