Meet The Residents - Original Limited Edition 1 Of 1000 LP - 1974 - Rare!
This is the original Limited Edition Mono First Issue LP of "Meet The Residents". On the rear cover, at bottom center it states: "FIRST PRESSING - 1000 DISCS - FEBRUARY, 1974 RALPH RECORDS, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA" (which can be seen in the photos).
The condition of the cover is VG+ even though it is 39 years old! The album too is VG+. It has only been played 4 or 5 times.
The reason I know it has only been played 4 or 5 times is because I am the original owner! Yes, in the summer of 1975 I was 19 years old. This was the summer after my first year in college, where I had been exposed to lots of new music. I was already a huge Zappa fan, but now I had really gotten into German acid (part of what became known overall as "Krautrock") like Guru Guru, Lucifer's Friend, etc.
Well, living in Florida, the only place I could get my hands on these european releases was way down at Peaches in Ft. Lauderdale. I bought many an LP there, but paid dearly for them. Then one day in a music magazine I saw an ad for a mail-order record store in Berkeley California, near San Francisco. It was "Rather Ripped Records" which called it's catalog/magazine "The Dedicated Fool". I couldn't believe all the bizarre, incredible music they had.
As I was reading the March/April 1975 issue, picking out a few things to order, I saw a full page story about a San Francisco group that had self-released their first LP. I was quite used to experimental music by this time, even beyond FZ, and the story was quite intriguing, so I added it to my order. I have scanned the article and the front page from this catalog and included it here (the magazine does not go with the LP). I hope ebay gives it enough resolution to be readable. If not, I can email a hi-res scan to anyone interested.
For those familiar with The Residents, and I'm sure that includes you if you are reading this, please note the article was attributed to Harvey Sox! Well, with 38 years of hindsight, we now have the fairly common understanding that The Resident's "representatives" are in reality the group themselves, that being Homer Flynn & Hardy Fox !
So, this is the rarest LP that I own, but it is time to let it go to a new home. Please send a message if you have any questions. I absolutely will not go around the auction to make the sale, so please do not ask. I will not ship it outside of the US. I will ship it at my own expense either 2nd or 3rd day so that it does not spend too much time in transit where it could be damaged. Good Luck!
