READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Meet the Beatles 1969 LP RECORD CLUB Green Label MUCH SCARCER Label, VG+/EX!

Most collectors are completely unaware that there were two lettering variations for less than half of the green Record Club titles.  I’ve only verified 3 or 4 titles that had a very small quantity of copies pressed with this alternate font.  To date, I’ve never seen any black labels with this font, and I’ve been looking for 50 years.

The more familiar labels have bright green targets, whereas this one has more of a darker lime green.  Secondly, the font is completely different, in that the lettering is thinner and spread further apart.

Vinyl--- VG+/EX.  Unfortunately, side 1 has one very long, but non-feelable scuff, which does not affect play.  I did play this one back when I owned a working turntable, so this is only a cosmetic mark.  Otherwise, this side looks nearly unplayed.  Side 2 does look neatly unplayed, with the exceptions of just short, light angel hairs in the dead wax.  Both sides have slightly dulled grooves, which might indicate that a good VPI cleaning will be in order.

Plates--- W1/W1.  No Capitol insignias are present.  However, the additional numeral “8” is present in the dead waxes on both sides, indicating that this disc is a Record Club issue.

Cover--- Strong VG.  Front cover has light to moderate ringwear, back cover has light yellowing.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.  

(Record covers were made from twice-recycled paper, and so they split easily.  PLEASE, never store your album inside this cover, or it will split!)

Top left corner has the three horizontal black bars, top right corner, as well as the spine have the printed catalogue number that includes the inserted numeral “8.”  Back cover has the printed catalogue number that includes the inserted numeral “8” just above the “FDS” round emblem at the top right. 

All of the above must be present for the cover to be the Record Club-issued cover, which none of the commercially-released covers had.

Labels--- EX/EX.  These labels are so close to NM that another professional grader would not be held accountable for grading them NM. Just one faint spindle mark on side 2 that you’ll need a bright light source to find.  Side 2 label has some stray black ink that had spread around the label at the factory.  Side 1 label is NM.  No small Capitol logo appears at the bottom perimeters of Record Club issues. 

Capitol Inner Sleeve--- VG+. Generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Sleeve has light wrinkles from usage.  It has also yellowed from the decades.  NO SPLIT SEAMS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 16

If you’ve never seen one of these, count on never seeing one again.  The only other copy I’ve ever seen had just one side with this label, and the other had the usual one, which I’ve already sold. 

I wouldn’t buy this one as a Christmas gift, no matter how nice they’ve been all year.  If you’re a collector of rare Beatles vinyl, this one’s for your collection.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
