READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning. I can’t test-play at the minute. Please don’t bid if this is a problem for you.
Meet the Beatles MONO LP 1966 Rare Vee Jay-Consigned Pressing, VG++!
Not many collectors know that Vee Jay’s plants pressed a few Beatles titles on consignment in 1966 only. The only ones I’ve verified so far are “The Early Beatles” which I just sold, “Revolver” and this one.
Dead wax markings tell the story.
If you’re an audiophile who is a fan of Vee Jay’s mono sound reproduction of their own catalogue, you’ll love how this copy sounds. Original Vee Jay platters from the 60’s are known to sound superior to even Capitol’s vinyl on a good system.
Vinyl--- VG++/VG++. Both sides shine like new, with the exceptions of a few light blemishes per side. Too strong to be called VG+, but just this side of EX.
Plates--- Vee Jay, as we know, did not use the traditional alpha-numerical system that Capitol did. They just used the catalogue number and the side designation. On this copy, they are as follows:
T1-2047-A/T2-2047-B
“Audio Matrix” stamp is on both sides.
The date that the metal plates were prepared are hand-etched 10-16-66 on each side.
Cover--- VG. Structurally solid cover. However; it looks like a previous owner had tried to clean the front cover pretty sloppily. I don’t know whether (or how) it could be restored, but the swipe marks are pretty pronounced, sorry! NO SPLIT SEAMS.
(Maybe just replace the cover.)
Labels--- NM/NM. Not to be confused with Columbia’s lathes. Those copies did use the alpha-numerics in the dead wax. This label uses the same concentric ring as the Vee Jay pressing that has the titles left-justified, large Brackets and double-spaced song titles. See compere photo. NO SPINDLE MARKS. These labels look 1966-fresh!
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- EX. Original Capitol tan inner sleeve from 1966 is present. The sleeve looks absolutely brand new, full-colors, razor-sharp edges. The only issue is a crease in the bottom corner from improper insertion at the factory. But even the crease looks 1966-brand new! NO SPLIT SEAMS.
A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.
RIAA: 3
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks!)
