The Beatles, Please Please Me, 1963 black and gold first press.
One of the Holy Grail's of record collecting!
This one is from my own personal collection, which I am now downsizing. I've had it for about ten years and only listened to it two or three times. It's been stored in an acid-free sleeve and box.
It's a good, solid all round copy. Here is a detailed and honest breakdown so you know what to expect:
The sleeve is decent and still sturdy with a strong readable spine. It's the original one with a golden tint and the Angus McBean picture credit to the far right of the cover (a revised version came soon after). However, there is some wear - a small amount of the picture has come away to reveal the cardboard underneath (front bottom centre - pictured) and the top half back flipback has separated from the card, leaving a top sleeve split of about six inches. This, though, could possibly be repaired as the flipback is still in tact. But it holds together pretty well. The top and bottom openings also have a small split of about two inches. There is a degree of foxing to the rear.
Inner sleeve is good for its age - a few expected creases, but no splits or tears.
The vinyl labels are good for a near 60 year old record - light spindlewear to each side and a few discoloured light scuffs. But certainly very respectable. The vinyl, visually, does have a number of light age-related hairlines each side - and side two has a bit of scuffing to the disc. But it has played fine on every occasion I have listened to it. Light crackling to the background, of course, but no skips or jumps.
The matrixes are XEX 421 - 1N and XEX 422-1N. Very low stampers at 2/GO and 1/H.
Overall this is a good, solid (though not perfect) decent copy of a stone cold classic. It's been listened to, but generally well cared for. There are many, many more out there in worse nick!! And they're only going up in rarity and value...
