Description
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful and rare LP from Electrola (ASDW 377 / STC 91082, German pressing, white/gold label – ED1, stereo, original inner sleeve included) features Yehudi Menuhin's inspired reading of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 61, recorded during 5-7 February 1960 in the warm acoustics of the Musikverseinsaal with Constantin Silvestri conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Incidentally, Menuhin plays Kreisler's cadenzas in Mvts I and III.
This is a richly moulded performance with Silvestri drawing accompaniment of the utmost strenght and refinement from the Vienna players. Happily, HMV provided opulent sound to match. This was Menuhin's first stereo recording of Op. 61 and it remained his very finest.
Incidentally, the fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket (in German only) are by Ulrich Herdieckerhoff.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is slight bumping/wear at corners, minor creasing, and mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners’ markings, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and very attractive in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not CD silent, in general the playback is superb. If you desire a flawless or near-MINT copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
