Merrell Fankhauser “Maui” RARE 1st PRESS PRIVATE SOFT PSYCH MU HMS BOUNTY LP

Artist: Merrell Fankhauser Title: S/T (or “The Maui Album”) Label: Maui Music Recording Co (M 101) Year: 1976
Condition:  Vinyl - M- Cover - VG+
Description:  very rare original privately pressed soft psych LP from the great Merrell Fankhauser. After his stint with Fapardokly, HMS Bounty and MU, Fankauser released his this, his first solo album, in 1976. Comprised of songs written a year earlier while Merrell and violin player Mary Lee were living in the jungle of Maui, this is a brilliant set of spiritual folk-rock and 70s orchestrated SSW light-pop The album was recorded at various Hollywood studios, initially sponsored by a producer from George Harrison’s Dark Horse label. In fact Harrison was so impressed with Merrell’s songs that he expressed interest in playing slide guitar on “Our Way To Hana”. Sadly, due to internal problems, Dark Horse backed off and Merrell found himself without a label to release the album. Finally, a couple of friends from Maui released it on the small Maui Music label. On the recordings, Merrell and Mary Lee were joined by several studio musicians, among them, drummer Bill Berg, who had played on Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”.
The vinyl is in beautiful M- condition, plays/sounds perfect.  The jacket shows minimal age with just a tiny bit of wear on the spine, otherwise in VG+ condition.  Comes with the original lyric insert which is in perfect mint condition.

BIDDERS - PLEASE READ THE BELOW
I grade my LPs VERY conservatively and accurately under a bright light.  A description of the grading scale is below:
M: MINT - perfect.  vinyl is pristine / cover is flawless and/or sealed
M- : just under mint.  a very, very slight amount of wear on the cover or inaudible wear on the vinyl (surface wear from age, generally) but is otherwise flawless
VG+: vinyl / cover shows signs minor signs age or wear that are more or less undistinct / inaudible.
VG: vinyl / cover shows some visible wear / age but is overall in very good shape.  pops and clicks may be ever so slightly noticeable, but don't effect play or overall listening experience.
VG-: vinyl / cover shows some relatively apparent age but is in overall good shape and still a fine copy to own / play.
G+: vinyl shows some heavy wear but overall sounds decent.  cover has some flaws or shows much age
G: vinyl is in pretty rough shape visibly but plays ok.  cover shows a lot of age or has some major splits or tears.
G-: vinyl looks / sounds pretty rough.  cover has major condition issues such as water damage, large rips, etc
*a double "+" or "-" indicates that the condition is just above or below the neighboring grade
