Description

An original 1st press of RTL on the UK MFN label from 1984. Matrix - MPO A1/B1 TY [confirming very 1st press]. Please note the label mentions 'Made In France' --- At 1st issue ALL UK copies were pressed by MPO in France [i.e. specifically for the UK market]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with the typographical error on the rear "For Whom The Bells Toll" - when it should in fact read "..Bell Tolls". Also the cover does not carry a bar-code on the rear and this helps to date it to 1984. The genuine very 1st pressings should also come with a promo leaflet advertising the current album release in 1984 along with the single 'Jump In The Fire'. We also have the original lyric inner sheet. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete. 
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) A really sweet looking copy that has only seen light use. Under close inspection I could make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. These early 1st issues have a reputation for sounding about as good as you can go with Metallica - and this copy does not disappoint. Intros and inbetweens are really quiet and the audio comes across with superb clarity. Admittedly there aren't all that many moments when the audio isn't at FULL ATTACK..but in those occasional low-key moments this copy proves itself as a clean low-mileage copy. Interference is very very minor and fleeting. I couldn't make out more than a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments. Fade To Black, for instance, plays very nice and clean and that's one of the few acoustic moments. By and large a top-level player which will not disappoint.
Cover (Vg+) Not up to the standard of the vinyl, but more than respectable in most aspects. A very nice shiny front with only the odd stress crease at the edges. Edge wear is mostly light, but there is a two inch wear-through patch on the spine. We've secured it internally with tape so it doesn't look/seem too bad, but it is still noticeable. And of course this means much of the text on the spine will be illegible. Overall the cover still looks nice and remains an impressive example.
Inner (Vg) Has been in the wars! We've taped up the edges due to splits. And that seems to have done the job of reinforcing/protecting it.
Promo leaflet (Ex-) Very nice. No issues.
