A unique addition to the Metallica enthusiast’s collection, the 1989 Vertigo UK re-issue of the “Direct Metal Mastering” of Ride the Lightning follows the lauded original Music For Nations (MFN) version.
This specific record, while well-loved, plays well from start to finish. The only notable flaws include a scratch along the “Fight Fire with Fire” track (though this only comes across as a minor pop) and a small recurring pop near the end of The Call of Ktulu.
Some differences between this vinyl and what you’d hear on digital are much more pronounced background guitar layers on certain tracks and instrumental details that are otherwise difficult to discern on modern tracks. This is not an album to miss.
