This is a British modern jazz recording by the Michael Garrick Trio recorded in mid 1964. It precedes the October Woman recordings and was Garrick's first foray into longer sessions. The trio is as follows: Garrick on piano, Dave Green on Bass and Colin Barnes plays drums. One track was recorded with John Taylor on Bass instead of Dave Green.
"I do love a good story, and you can almost always guarantee getting one with Trunk. This time around we're delving into the personal collection of Johnny Trunk, who is by all accounts a man on a mission when he wants something. A few years ago he was after a lesser known jazz 10" called 'Moonscape' by British jazz act the Michael Garrick Trio, a 10" that was limited to 99 copies only and now goes for well over £1000 on Ebay. Strangely enough he was able to track one down, and once stunned by the music proceeded to track down Mr Garrick himself and ask about the possibility of a reissue. After much wrangling and tangling Garrick finally agreed to allow the Trunk crew to re-issue his lost record and as usual they have done so with genuine passion. 'Moonscape' is prime quality lunar jazz, not necessarily free per-se but certainly out there in just the right way, and the best thing is it seems to be recorded like the great British rock records at the same time (it was released in 1964). Short and oh-so-sweet, although this might only be just under 25 minutes in length, 'Moonscape' proves if ever proof were needed that it's what you do with it that counts. It always astounds me when music like this appears from the annals of some studio or another, unheard by so many, that nobody noticed at the time? I mean, it's been a good long while since the release, you'd think that some jazz fan or another would get hold of the album and would have re-released it before now, but I guess that's the beauty of Trunk - they find the stuff that everyone else never managed to. Fans of the Basil Kirchin releases and those of you in search of some great classic jazz really need to get hold of this without delay, admittedly there are now more than 99 copies pressed, but you know the lovely Trunk vinyl never lasts long. Shipping: Records will be shipped in 12x12 Corrugated LP Mailers. Each LP will be sandwiched between 12x12 corrugated pads and wrapped in bubble wrap. The paper sleeves will be taken out of the LP jacket, and the jacket and record will both inserted inside the plastic sleeve.
