Grading

Most records under $10 (actually, most between $10 and $30) are bought for their listening enjoyment.  We try to note anything in this price range that will impact the listening experience.  We use the Goldmine system which is set-up for collectors who want to judge the record's condition (similar to stamp or coin collectors).  Once a record gets below a VG+ in this system the record will have some visible scuffs and scratches.  If the record is rare enough it may still be worth a considerable amount of money (but the sound quality may not be good).  Keep this in mind when comparing price and condition if you are buying more for listening pleasure than for collecting.

First Pressings and Promos:  When a new record is released, the first pressings are sent out to radio stations and DJs as promos. Because they are the first pressings off the dies, the sound quality may be significantly better than their commercially-released equivalents. Typically they're priced higher because they are more rare and have better sound quality.
