Up for auction now is a SUPER RARE promo only item issued on MCA in 1982 on MCA 70000.  It is the special--and very limited edition--promotional preview to the E.T. storybook boxed set.  This contains the record with custom label of Michael Jackson and E.T., a 22" x 22" poster of the same picture and a 24-page color storybook.  The record is narrated by Michael Jackson and produced by Quincy Jones.  The jacket is completely white and empty, albeit the small picture/sticker on the right hand side.  The poster is perfect; the record is perfect; the book (only) has some very light moisture/water damage to it.  You can barely see the watermark but you can tell for sure as the bottoms of the pages have that crinkle/feel to it.  The last one to sell (that I know of) in 2005 sold for just under $400.00.  (NOT a typo!)  The 45rpm 7" version was selling for anywhere between $50-$300 and was less scarce!

At this time, I only have access to a scanner and not a camera.  If you need additional scans, please let me know and I will do my best to give you what you are asking for.  Anything more than 7" size, I will attempt to do my best to get the best scan.  This includes the records of the 12"s.  I will not "add" any additional scans to the listing; therefore, you need to supply an email address so I can send the scans.

Grading for the 12" records have three grades: Overall; Jacket; and Record.  The basis for the grades pretty much follow the below Goldmine Standards.

Grading is done using Goldmine Standards variation:

Mint (M)   Absolutely perfect in every way. If there is any sign of being played, it is not mint! 

Near Mint (NM or M-)   A nearly perfect record. The record should show no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling.
An LP cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or other noticeable similar defects. No cut-out holes, either. And of course, the same should be true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves and the like. Basically, an LP in near mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a new record store and removed the shrink wrap.

Excellent EX : An excellent (EX or VG++) condition for vinyl will allow minor scuffs which are visible but only slightly. There may be more than a few, so be careful not call a record that has wear to more than 15% of the surface. The wear should be minimal and of course should play mint! Any scratches that can be felt with your fingernail can NOT be called scuffs. Scuffs lay on top of the grooves. If any break in the grooves are felt, they ARE scratches. And most often, they will be heard when played (soft clicks or even loud pops). Once again, no scratches can make this grade! Artwork should still be as close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear! Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show white (where the artwork pasted slick was) meaning, slight wear. No seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs can make this grade. If you don't think a cover is NM than call it EX or less.

Very Good Plus (VG+)   A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experiences. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are "OK". The label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated play. Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some slight wear, lightly turned up corners, or a slight seam split. An LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount. In general, if not for a couple things wrong with it, this would be Near Mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus record highly acceptable.

Very Good (VG)   Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced in a VG disc. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as with light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound. Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of them.

Good (G), Good Plus (G+)   Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object. If it is a common item, you'll probably find another copy in better shape eventually. Pass it up. But, if it's something you have been seeking for years, and the price is right, get it...but keep looking to upgrade.

Poor (P), Fair (F)   The record is cracked, badly warped, and won't play through without skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP cover barely keeps the LP inside it. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkled, and written upon. Except for impossibly rare records otherwise unattainable, records in this condition should be bought or sold for no more than a few cents each.

Still Sealed (SS)  These have the shrinkwrap still on.  A SS record does not mean that it is mint, though!  There could be a drill hole, corners bent, water damage, etc.  With my records, I will be specific in my descriptions when listing a SS record.

All records have been handled with the utmost of care.  However, please remember these are USED!  (Unless otherwise specified, generally SS grade.) 

Shipping is $4.00, USPS Media Mail--unless otherwise specified.  Each additional single, 12" record is $.75--up to three.  Four to seven 12"'s are $7.00, also media mail.  This rate is for only shipping in the Lower 48 States.  See below.)  **Anything over seven 12" please inquire!**  (Most likely the price will be approximately $12.00 for up to 20 12"s.  Lots are priced separately.  All records are packed safely in bubble wrap and wrapped in cardboard after that.  IT IS HIGHLY SUGGESTED THAT ANY RECORD PURCHASED HAS INSURANCE!  Although I very securely package ALL of my records, I can not be responsible for damaged records in the mail!  Any record with a final bid over $50.00 will require insurance.  This includes a TOTAL package of all records being shipped over $50.00.  There is no longer surface mail to my mates across the seas.  Therefore, shipping will be quite a bit more for ANYTHING sent outside of the continental United States.
