The quality of vinyl released in the 1970s, 1980s and even into the 1990s was not of the standard expected of today's vinyl. Picture discs and coloured vinyl in particular were pressed more for their asthetic qualities and novelty value rather than their sound quality and all coloured vinyls and picture discs have sound quality inferior to standard black vinyl. Also, record companies were pressing and dispatching so much vinyl that their quality control over the packaging of records often left a lot to be desired!
