LP a copertina apribile. Rara edizione del 1982, a 9 tracce, appartenente alla serie Limited Edition “Master Sound – Digital Mastering”. Con questa serie audiophile, la CBS-sony, ha usato sofisticate tecniche di registrazione e cutting del vinile in modo da ridurre drasticamentele perdite alle alte frequenze e i fenomeni di distorsione. Il risultato finale della tecnica Digital Mastering è un suono più pulito, dinamico e dettagliato. Con inserto a colori lucido di 10 pagine con foto a colori, discografia, testi in inglese e giapponese e doppio poster, con ulteriore inserto di 2 pagine con note biografiche in giapponese. OBI a colori, a sfondo azzurro, riportante il prezzo di yen 2.500.

Michael Joseph Jackson (Gary, 29 agosto 1958 – Los Angeles, 25 giugno 2009) è stato un cantautore, ballerino, coreografo, produttore discografico, attore, sceneggiatore e imprenditore statunitense. Il suo contributo alla musica e alla danza, accompagnato da una vita privata molto particolare, ha fatto di lui una figura di spicco nella cultura popolare per oltre quattro decenni. Dopo aver iniziato la sua carriera a soli cinque anni nel gruppo di famiglia, i Jackson Five (nell'autobiografia Moonwalk ricorda come venisse paragonato a Frankie Lymon), iniziò la propria attività da solista nel 1971, con l'album Got to Be There. Nel 1979 esordì definitivamente da solista con Off the Wall, e divenne l'artista pop di maggior successo di sempre; ciò fu dovuto anche a Thriller (1982), tuttora l'album più venduto nella storia della musica, co-prodotto da Quincy Jones e vincitore di 8 premi Grammy. Con oltre 1 miliardo di dischi venduti (dato certificato dal Guinness dei primati nel 2009) è di fatto il cantante di maggior successo di tutti i tempi.Considerato il Re del Pop oltre che uno dei più importanti musicisti e intrattenitori nella storia dello spettacolo, in più di quarant'anni di carriera Michael Jackson ha ricevuto numerosi premi, tra cui quelli di miglior artista pop maschile del millennio ai World Music Awards del 2000 e di artista del secolo agli American Music Awards del 2002. È stato anche incluso due volte nella Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, nel 1997 come vocalist dei Jackson Five e nel 2001 per la sua carriera solista. Nel 2002 è anche entrato nella Songwriters Hall of Fame. Nel corso della sua carriera ha vinto 13 Grammy Awards.

Thriller è stato pubblicato il 1º dicembre del 1982. Raggiunse la vetta sulla Billboard 200 Chart e ci rimase per ben 37 settimane, rimase invece nella top 10 per 80 settimane e in classifica per 122 settimane. Da quest'album vennero estratti sette singoli tra cui Billie Jean, Beat It, ed infine l'omonima Thriller. Il primo (Billie Jean) raggiunse la prima posizione nella Billboard Hot 100 rimanendovi per sette settimane consecutive e nella R&B chart per nove settimane. Il brano è il più famoso della carriera di Jackson ed è considerato uno dei migliori nella storia della musica. Beat It raggiunse anch'essa la prima posizione sulla Billboard Hot 100 e la mantenne per tre settimane, mentre Thriller non raggiunse la vetta sulla Hot 100 bensì in quella Hot Dance Club Play rimanendovi per undici settimane. Dopo un anno dalla sua pubblicazione il disco aveva già venduto più di 27 milioni di copie, e nel 1985 venne introdotto per la prima volta nel Guinness dei primati come disco di maggior successo di sempre. Thriller inoltre, è stato il primo e unico album della storia ad essere il best-seller americano per due anni di fila (1983-1984). Parte del successo dell'album è dovuto inoltre all'esibizione al 25° anniversario della Motown dove Michael Jackson si esibì in Billie Jean e lanciò il Moonwalk ovvero la celebre camminata all'indietro (successivamente usata in tutte le esibizioni live di Billie Jean). Al disco collaborarono anche altri artisti, tra cui Paul McCartney, Toto ed Eddie Van Halen. Nel 1984, Thriller ricevette 12 nominations ai Grammy Awards e ne vinse 8 (cifra record per un solo album). A seguito della morte di Jackson, l'album è rientrato ai primi posti in tutte le classifiche mondiali, vendendo più di 2 milioni di copie. Il successo si è conseguito anche per i singoli, i quali hanno riconquistato la vetta delle classifiche, con diverse milioni di copie vendute.
