Description

Up for auction is a genuine original 1982 US FIRST RUN pressing of Michael Jackson’s iconic album Thriller (Epic – QE 38112).This copy is highly desirable to audiophiles and collectors due to its specific manufacturing run-out matrix details:Matrix / Dead Wax: PAL 38112-2A (Side 1) / PBL 38112-2B (Side 2)Pressing Plant: Columbia Records Pressing Plant – Pitman, New Jersey (identified by the stamped/etched "P" in the dead wax). What Makes the 2A / 2B Pitman Pressing Special?
First-Generation Audio Fidelity: Cut by legendary mastering engineer Bernie Grundman, the 2A / 2B suffixes denote the absolute earliest master lacquer cuts made directly from the original 1982 analog master tapes. Unlike later re-repressings cut months or years down the line, these early lacquers capture the rawest, most dynamic full-range sound with warm bass and punchy, uncompressed high frequencies.  Superior Pitman Vinyl Craftsmanship: Columbia's Pitman, NJ facility was renowned among industry insiders for its strict quality control, smooth vinyl formulation, and low surface noise. A "P" stamped early cut is widely considered one of the finest-sounding commercial pressings of Thriller ever produced.
Original 1982 Details: Features the original "No Co-Producer Credit" back cover jacket design from the initial pre-release print run. Also known as the No Co-Producer Error.
Condition Summary  Vinyl (Strong VG) VG+: Retains high original factory shine. Displays superficial sleeve scuffs and faint hairlines under direct light, but plays through with full, dynamic audio. No skips or deep gouges. Clean, unworn center labels.
Gatefold Jacket (G+ / VG): Cover art remains vibrant. Shows water staining on the top-left outer area and seam exposure along the inner gatefold hinge.    Inner Sleeve (G+): Includes the original lyric inner sleeve with mild handling wear, a small tear and light edge discoloration.
An essential addition for any collector seeking authentic 1982 analog audio fidelity. Please view all photos for detailed condition before purchasing.
