Description

Mickey Baker who earned a well-deserved reputation as one of rock and rolls early influential guitar player released The Wildest Guitar in 1959.  The album was Baker's opportunity to showcase his unadorned versatility as a solo artist. This album is an entirely instrumental offering which captures Baker's work as he moves from sharp, bluesy riffs similar to the distinctive style that gained him fame as half of the Mickey and Sylvia duo on "Love Is Strange." The album features the unique guitar style used by Mickey and Sylvia on many of their recordings. Baker shows his versatility as he reinterprets the standard the "Old Devil Moon" giving the tune an early surf rock sound.  To a warm and yet frenzy guitar interpretation on Cole Porter's "Night and Day." Baker arranged the album and captures a snazzy R&B feel along with biting solos. This album features four tunes that Baker wrote himself which presents straightforward R&B the kind of guitar that one would expect to hear coming from Mickey and Sylvia and their '50s R&B tunes many of which were on Atlantic.
