WELCOME! I Work in a record store in Austin, Texas and I am going to be selling off some of my collection, I am starting off small, but I do have all positive feedback for records and other items, including some pricey heavy hitters and no complaints thus far thankfully. This week I'm offering a lot of RARE and OBSCURE records from all sorts of genres, mostly private press stuff, like boogie funk psych soul folk xian weird etc..

For auction is: The Grip - Get a Grip (Mike Baumann and Steve Huntington) . No label. From Atomik Productions 1981.

Scarce Private press LP with Mike Baumann and Steve Huntington playing most of the instruments and writing most all the songs.  This LP is unfindable in all the research I have done, however I do think that this is the Mike Baumann from the Ohio 60s teen garage band The Grayps, and I think he was in a band in the Ohio area in the 70's called Gandalf.  If I am mistaken and that is another Mike Baumann musician from Ohio (which I doubt...) I apologize, but I'm almost certain it is the one and the same.  That Mike Baumann played drums for Grayps I think.  Anyway, the album is really solid and has a diverse sound that a lot of late 70s early 80s private press records have.  Some tracks are cool jazzy blue-eyed soul with great lyrics and spiritual jazz sounding chorus parts, other tracks are straight ahead early 80s folky softrock, like Toto or something.  Others are instrumental jazz ensemble with prog elements. But my favorite 3 tracks are all in the soundclip above, and combine the best elements of all these genre descriptions into cohesive songs that you rarely encounter on something this obscure..

Vinyl: VG++ (Vinyl looks very nice, still shiny and clean, there are a few paper scuffs and a couple really small hairline scratches, the sound is really great and only a few crackles are present, overall excellent sound and very minor wear, this is a strong vg++ for sure.)  ^Listen to Sound Clip

Jacket/Label: VG  (The jacket is not as nice as the vinyl, but the front and back cover are still really nice and have only a small bit of ringwear, and a small worn blemish in the top right of the front, but still look quite good as you can see. But the sides have started to split, the back spine is beginning to split in the middle significantly and the top is starting to split as well, but at this point they have not completely split open, they are about halfway there, but like i said the spine and borders are still holding, could use some tape if you are into that. The bottom edge is fine.)
