The holy grail of British jazz, here is a unique opportunity to purchase a sublimely inventive piece of music. Mike Taylor’s debut album ‘Pendulum’ was recorded at Lansdowne Studios under the supervision of Denis Preston, the UK’s premier jazz producer. Taylor’s idiosyncratic style and approach to arrangement transforms such standards as ‘A Night in Tunisia’ into a 13 minute epic of light and shade while his originals display a harmonic approach characterised by rich density and dynamism. This really is a very rare and highly sought after item that never comes up for sale in any lists or auctions. Bid now – it won’t happen again for many years!
Part of the ‘Lansdowne Series’ of recordings, ‘Pendulum’ showcased the talents of the extraordinarily talented Taylor. However, tragedy would hallmark his life. Taylor’s parents were killed in a car crash and he was raised by his grandparents, working as a salesman for this grandfather’s wallpaper company to get by. As well as a superb jazz artist, Taylor’s unique lyrical approach contributed to the canon of seminal rock super-group Cream (both Ginger Baker & Jack Bruce had played with Taylor pre-Cream days). Taylor succumbed to mental illness and finally committed suicide in 1969 leaving a tragically small body of work. However, it remains one of the most individual in British jazz. A true synthesis of American jazz & blues with European folk, classical and song.
Recently given a new audience via Gilles Peterson’s ‘Impressed’ compilation and reissues of rare and obscure British jazz, Mike Taylor is now rightly recognised as the genius he was.

Sleeve - VG - some evidence of ring wear on the sleeve and a small amount of foxing, indicative of it's age. Small amount of creasing down the spine.
