Solid Gold Cadillac

RCA Records SF8311 1972 12" 33.3 rpm vinyl LP (UK)

10 great tracks including 'Pleasure City, The Island, Let It Shine, March and Technology'

Solid Gold Cadillac was a British jazz-rock group set up in the early 1970s. The band featured, variously, Roy Babbington (bass), Mike Westbrook (electric piano), Fi Trench (piano, organ), Chris Spedding (guitar), Brian Godding (guitar), Rick Morcombe (guitars), Malcolm Griffiths (trombone), Phil Minton (lead vocals, trumpet), George Khan (sax, flute), Butch Potter (bass) and Alan Jackson (drums).

The band released two albums on RCA Records: Solid Gold Cadillac (1972) and Brain Damage (1973), re-released together on CD in 1999.

Two of the most enjoyable experimental albums ever made. Phil Minton's voice storms and whispers tearing through the rock songs that Mike Westbrook arranges with a panache that all his early albums possess. Jazz and roll, Mingus and Ellington, Pere Ubu and Captain Beefheart all rolled into two stunning albums. Too much fun and too adventurous to be called jazz-rock.
