Description

On offer here is the Ultra-rare 2 volume original DERAM label pressing of "MARCHING SONG" by THE MIKE WESTBROOK CONCERT BAND. Recorded in 1969 the 2 volumes are seen as classic recordings by modern jazz officionados worldwide.

The suites of music progress from "the crowd cheers its heroes, off to the glory of war", through "the magnificent human fighting machine" to "a brass band to hide the screams of the dead". Amongst the 26 musicians are Dave Holdsworth (trumpet & flugelhorn), Henry Lowther (trumpet), Mike Gibbs (trombone), John Surman (baritone & soprano sax), Alan Skidmore (tenor sax & flute), Nisar Ahmed Khan (tenor sax), John Marshall (drums) as well as Westbrook himself on piano.

The vinyl itself is NEAR MINT on all 4 sides retaining it's original glossy playing surface with no marks whatsoever. The aural experience when played on my  upmarket Linn Sondek turntable is full & background noise free. The original DERAM labels, white & beige in this case as they are MONO recordings, are excellent with no spindle marks, writing or unsightly stains. The  original trademark DECCA/DERAM inner sleeves have the red (mono) border which shows through the outer cover as a red spot. Both are in excellent order. The 2 outer covers are near excellent. The laminated fronts are still glossy, unmarked & excellent. The unlaminated backs are very good, again unmarked, no writing etc.; the only reason I'm not grading them as excellent is the age slight browning effect to the edges. The spines are excellent; no creasing or marking at all.
