Description
Miles Davis At The Carnegie Hall was released in the summer of 1962 ....almost one year after the original concert. It set the seal on Davis's emergence as a jazz superstar over the preceding five years. Split between music by the quintet and Gil Evans's arrangements of some of the material from their albums together, the night was distinguished by the leader's own playing, executed with more incisiveness on the Evans material than on the studio versions. For the most part, Davis's solos during this concert are as alert and packed with attitude as anything he was to do throughout his career. An album that seems to get better with every listen.
On offer is a 1st UK pressing (SBPG 62081) from 1962; hard enough to find in Mono but in Stereo it is a real challenge. The vinyl is fairly thick and has decent weight with fully and heavily textured labels. When you run your fingers over the labels it almost feels like concrete. The sound is detailed, bold and well balanced.
Cover: Excellent(minus) ....overall a very nice example of this laminated jacket.....top right corner has some wear due to a printing mishap (or perhaps where a price sticker used to be?) ....back of the cover is in very nice condition with just a small piece of the flipback missing.

Record: VG+ .....plays beautifully with only the occasional touch of surface noise during the very quiet moments....some sporadic light ticks are heard but nothing at all overpowering. Under strong light one can see some scuff lines but most have no bearing on the bold and bright audio. A very satisfying listen of this exceedingly rare 1st UK Stereo pressing.
