Miles Davis "Classics In Jazz" 1950's

Capitol, H-459, Mono, 10" 33 1/3 RPM

This album is part of Sweet Melissa Records' posting of Jazz & Blues 10" 33 1/3 vinyl this week! This record's cuts, spawned largely from the late-forties collaboration of Davis, Gerry Mulligan, and Gil Evans, comprise, in the liner notes' words, "a group of memorable arrangements" that document "productive work on new musical ideas, new voicing techniques, new concepts of jazz." Many of the songs come from Davis' "Birth of the Cool," and the rest boast of a similar personnel. The vinyl is in fair to good condition, with a considerable amount of surface scratches; none of which, however, are deep enough to cause too many skips or breaks on playback. Cover is in rough shape, spine is torn. Stains and some minor ring-wear on back side. In this rare format, this is a wonderful compilation from a pivotal moment in jazz history!
