Description
This landmark 1951 session represents a pinnacle of the Cool Jazz and Post-Bop movements, featuring some of the most forward-thinking musicians of the era under the leadership of alto saxophonist Lee Konitz.
Side A: Ezz-thetic: Composed by the visionary theorist and drummer George Russell, this track is a brilliant modern jazz masterwork based on the chord changes of "Love for Sale." It is famous for its complex, angular melodic line and features an iconic, blistering solo by guest tenor saxophonist Miles Davis alongside Konitz's fluid, vibratoless alto phrasing.
Side B: Hi Beck: A Konitz original based on the harmonies of "Pennies from Heaven." The track showcases the tight, sophisticated ensemble interplay between Konitz, Miles Davis, and Lennie Tristano disciple Sal Mosca on piano. It remains a definitive example of the intellectual, linear improvisation style championed by the Tristano school.

Condition Report
Surface: The disc is in Excellent (E) condition. It retains a beautiful, high level of original factory luster. Visual inspection shows the playing surfaces to be exceptionally clean, free from any deep scratches, scuffs, or noticeable groove-wear.
Labels: The classic Esquire labels are beautifully preserved. The lettering remains sharp, clear, against the background. The center hole shows negligible evidence of spindle wear.
Playback: The audio is strong, crisp, and clear. This high-quality UK Esquire pressing handles the complex transients of Max Roach’s drumming and the sharp horn interplay with outstanding presence and minimal surface noise.
The disc is sandwiched between corrugated cardboard and wrapped in bubble wrap. This is then placed inside a double-skin box filled with packing void to prevent movement and provide maximum protection.
