Description

I never use generic AI descriptions.

Where to start with this one. This is a 1964 Rudy
Van Gelder stamped Miles Davis & The Modern
Jazz Giants RARE Black & White cover. According
to Discogs there are only 17
registered on the website & the cheapest for
sale is a VG/G+ for $145 from Germany. I’ve
never seen a black & white cover variant of this
in my life. Here is the listing on Discogs:

Now to the record’s condition & play
testing notes:

I give this record a F because it jumps one time on
song 1 on side 1. Also there is a spot on song 1
side 1 (see pictures) which I hypothesize to be
heat damage. It produces a light hiss when the needle
passes through the spot akin to a closed
hit on a hi hat. I’ve posted a quick 20 second
video to show the hiss/tick and where it skips
that one time. The link is below. There are two
more of the same spot on side 2 song 1 which
produce the same sound (see picture). The
reason I estimate these spots to be heat damage
is because the crate I pulled this record from
had other records in it which clearly had
cigarette burns on the outer rim of the record. I
believe these spots are where the lit cigarette
was held close to the record, but not close
enough to render it unplayable. However
nothing about this record smells of cigarette
smoke so I could be wrong. The inner tunes
play like a EX record. They play quiet, strong,
& smooth. It’s just song one on either side that
have the anomalies.

Now to the rare part; the sleeve. The sleeve is a
strong VG. There is light shelf wear present on
black cover & also a slight discoloration on the
right side of the cover image (see picture).
Chipping is present on the spine however there
is no seam split. The corners have light dings
but nothing major. It’s really a nice example of
a super rare cover variant to this classic record.
There is a plain white paper inner. I use the
Goldmine grading standard.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions
or requests for additional photos. No
reasonable offer will be ignored so shoot me
something fair.
