Miles Davis – Sketches of Spain (Columbia CS 8271) Authentic 1960 Stereo First Pressing – "Six Eye" Label
At Blue Station Jazz, we provide "Reference Grade" vinyl audits on a J. Sikora Standard Max turntable with a DS Audio optical cartridge. This is a verified 1960 stereo first pressing, featuring the early -1AB and -1K "XSM" matrix cuts from the Pitman plant.
Surface Quietness / Playback Background: [VG+] Our audit confirms a very solid VG+ listening copy. There are some typical random pops and crackle throughout the playback, but they remain generally low in level and do not overpower the orchestration.
Sonic Fidelity / Mastering Presence: [Solid B] A magnificent stereo presentation. This pressing offers a very wide soundstage while maintaining a really nice center focus. As is somewhat typical for the mastering on this specific album, the massed horns and strings are cut slightly hot, but the individual players sound fantastic and highly focused. Miles, in particular, comes through exceptionally clean and clear. A classic, dynamic document of the Davis/Evans partnership.

Condition Note (Jacket): [VG] The original jacket is graded as VG. While the overall presentation remains nice, there are two distinct worn spots (approximately 1 inch in size)—one on the front cover and one on the back. There is also some slight corner wear. The price has been strictly adjusted downward to account for these specific cosmetic flaws.
