Everyone seems to have their own “goldmine standard” so here’s mine:
MINT = Brand new unopened, this is the only time I use this grading.
NM = NEAR MINT = No scratches, no marks, no scuffs it’s been opened possibly never played, perfect.
VG+ = Close To perfect maybe a few very light scratches or “paper scuffs” definitely not overwhelmingly scratched, nothing that can be felt by touch, shouldn’t affect the music at all.
VG = Normal wear for a record, will still play through without significant noise, definitely no scratches that can be felt by touch.
G+ = Record is significantly scratched/scuffed plays through without skipping, could contain a few ticks but the music is still the focal point. You still shouldn’t be able to feel these scratches.
Good = record plays without skipping, can possibly hear background static, pops and ticks.
Fair = record should still play through without skipping but record is significantly scratched and you will definitely hear background static, pops and ticks. No guarantees on these records at all. Mostly not worth spending money on unless very rare or you want to use them as collection filler.
