Description
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from London (LL 1257, jacket printed in the USA / LP pressed in the UK, red/silver London ffrr label, mono) features Mischa Elman's sublime rendition of Beethoven's Violin Concerto in D Major Op. 61, recorded in London in April 1955, with Sir Georg Solti conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Elman plays his own very effective cadenzas in the First and Third Movements of the Concerto.
There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Martin Cooper, printed in English only. The striking cover photo of Elman is uncredited.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the jacket appears almost as new. There are no seam splits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a lovely collector’s copy.
The condition of the LP itself is NM-. Visually, there are hairline marks, but these are non-sounding. In terms of sound, although the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM- vs. NM or MINT), this is a fine copy and playback is quite fine. However, If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM- collector's copy.
