Description
Mississippi John Hurt TODAY 1966 VINYL Vanguard Stereo Press VG+ Delta Blues
I forgot how good this cat was. There is some excellent delta blues fingerpicking and slide work and a voice that is smooth and accessible. Authentic stuff from a man, who at the time of this recording in 1966, was aged, but close to the top of his game. His guitar playing is understated and exquisite. If I am not mistaken, this album was recorded live in the studio. Just him and his guitar. At points it sounds like two guitarists playing.
The vinyl, visually looks to be in excellent condition, with what appears to be very light scuffing associated with removal from the sleeve. I have also play graded the record. There is audible surface noise on the first track on Side 1 and Side 2. The rest of the album plays perfectly and has minimal clicks and pops associated with vinyl, but no skipping.
The cover has minor ring wear. There is a ding in the upper left corner and minor rounding/whiting on the others. There is what appears to be a kind of ‘puffing” on the bottom left edge, but it appears to be a factory flaw as the back side’s layover sheet is folded under.
It comes with the original Vanguard records inner sleeve.
Overall, I would grade both the vinyl and cover at VG+.
