Description
More from this same jazz collection I have been selling for the last month, check all my other rare titles I have listed most are in EX to NM. I have listed more on Discogs.
These records are from a DJ and Jazz critic for Downbeat from the 50's thru the 80's. I was fortunate to buy his best copies for my customers.
UP NEXT: Serious Brazilian masterpiece originale 1965 on Forma monofonico by Moacir Santos "COISAS" original not a reissue. 1 of 100 copies pressed w a letter from it's producer Roberto Quartin to said radio DJ and jazz critic Harry Frost. Original letter will be included A true Brazilian artifact.
LP is close to EX w hairline paper inaudible scuffs. Rare Mono version Gatefold laminate jacket. Plays superb. Jacketinside has foxing and slight tears on outer edge. See scans flaking on top seam.
If you can not make out the letter. See below... Spelling errors and all!
The Moacir Santos is a very fine record. Moacyr is the most original composer in Brazil,at least to me. His tunes contains a rhythm freshness and a melodic conception really original. The album is titled COISAS DE MOACIR SANTOS" The tunes aretitled Coisa No 1, Coisa No 2and so.Sure some tunes you forget, let me say that Coisasmeans THINGS. The rhythm is a mixture of Brazil and Africa music a real challenge to most musicians. Moacyr had a difficult task to find the write musicians for his rhythm section. This was the only record Moacyr did in 20 years of real original work;he is determined to search new possibilities for Brazilian music, but not searching only to be original, but also because he thinks our music has originality, and this originality must be seen,or heard. As you can expect, thisrecord didn't sold more than a hundred copies. For Brasil standards, it is a very advanced record, that's all! Eventhe Forma label,is now a defunct one; it's owners couldn'tsupport it anymore,so they produced its albums as idealists, not using the commercial mind that the record industry requires. The results were disastrous, and they ended their venture with a great financial trouble. Moacyr Santos now is living in the United States, and according to the last reports,he is working pretty well, and may be some day he will receive the recognition deserved for 20 years, and maybe Americans discover his talent; Brazilians did not.
One word of caution: The Moacyr SantosLP must be heard several times before you dig it. I listened 3 or 4 times to capture all of his orioginality, beauty and freshness. But this can be due to my thick skull...
