format LP artist Mombasa title African Rhythms & Blues label Spiegelei/Intercord country Germany catalog # INT 160.020 year 1975 record/cover ex/ex rare original, german pressing – released in 1975 in small amounts on the scarce german Spiegelel label, recorded at Cornet Studios, Cologne, Germany 14th April, 1975. In their debut album, Mombasa (a European group put together by LA trombonist Lou Blackburn) comes up with a sublime blend of spiritual jazz and African rhythms; percussion, acoustic bass, and soaring horn lines on trombone, trumpet, and bamboo flute! musicians Gerald Luciano – bass, percussion, drums (Domba); Donald Coleman – congas, bamboo-flute; Cephus McGirt – drums; Lou Blackburn – trombone; Charles Jefferson – trumpet, fluegelhorn, kalimba (african thumb harp) tracks
