Monkees 2 MONO LP’s Still in Shrink 1967 More of The Monkees and Headquarters

(Heh.  I just realized something.  “Mono” means “monkey” in Spanish.  Yes.  Well.  Having said that…)

Headquarters

(Not many people realize that “Headquarters,” as well as their debut album sold well enough to have to have a small percentage of MONO copies consigned to Decca Records’ pressing plant.  This is a Decca copy.)

Vinyl--- NM/EX.  Side 1 looks unplayed.  Side 2 has one or two very light hairlines.  Otherwise looks unplayed.

Plates--- 10-S/ 10-S.  As per Decca pressing plates, the matrices are machine-stamped in script numerals.

Cover--- Structurally perfectly solid.  However, the shrinkwrap has faded and become brittle, which did not protect the right quadrant of the cover on both sides to develop heavy foxing.

Back cover contains the very short-lived bottom center photo, showing three of The Monkees sporting beards.  I’ve never known why this photo was deleted in favor of the far more common side view photo of the producer.  But this photo was not in the shops for very long at all.

Labels--- NM.  Side 1 label was creased a little when applied.  Other than that, both labels look 1967 brand new, NO spindle marks.

Decca labels are flat against the vinyl, as well as having their concentric groove very close in to the playhole.  Compare them to any 1960’s Who album or any album pressed on the UNI subsidiary label.

Inner Sleeve--- Issued with a generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show.

Mike Nesmith referred to this album as “the worst album ever released.”  He was such a great PR man for the group.

Vinyl--- EX/EX.  Just a shade off NM, each side.  NICE.

Plates--- 10S/ 29S.  COLGEMS, having been distributed by RCA, has a hand-etched letter “R” in the dead wax on Side 1, and a machine-stamped one on Side 2.

Cover--- Shrinkwrap is tight against the cover.  COLGEMS must have used grade F shrinkwrap.  Cover is about 85% clean and new-looking.  But again, down the mouth of both sides, there is yellowing.  This copy has a small area of foxing at the top right corner.  Sears sticker still attached.  Much nicer cover than “Headquarters.”

Labels--- NM gorgeous labels, 1967 brand new-looking.  RCA’s concentric groove is the thick trench you see in the photos on these labels.  Check them against your original copies of Jefferson Airplane or Elvis if you have them.

Inner Sleeve--- Issued with a generic white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show.

A pair of VERY nice vinyl MONO Monkees albums that both look VERY close to NM!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
