Monkees LP Head EXTREMELY RARE 1968 SHADED DOG CANADIAN ORIGINAL LP!
I’ll be willing to bet that you’ve never seen one of these before. You’re never going to see one of these again.
In 44 years of collecting rare labels, this is the one and only copy I’ve ever seen. Generally, when I come across a label this rare, I try to find a second copy to keep. I’ve never found one, and I hate to let this one go.
Cover---This one has an alternate (not “alternative”) texture than most countries had gotten. Rather than the mirrored foil, this one has a flat-textured grey cover, as can be seen in the photo. I’m standing directly over the cover to take the shot, and you can’t see my reflection. The corners of the cover have some light wear to them. The top left corner has suffered the most loss, so I’ll call that a moderate-to-heavy loss of slick. All seams and the spine are strong and sturdy as ever. The front and back covers are very, very clean with only a slight amount of ringwear. NO dirtwear (which is miraculous for a smooth grey front and a black back) and only the slightest hint of an outdent from the LP. There is a small pinprick hole in the top corner of the front cover, which goes through to the back cover.
Inner Sleeve---Issued with a plain, white non die-cut sleeve with no circular holes for the labels to show through. There is one side seam that is split about half an inch in the center. The sleeve also has the pinprick hole that corresponds to the cover, so you can be assured that this package is all-original.
Vinyl---Stunning, as you would have hoped. Side 1 has some very tiny manufacturing defect scratches that are all in a line. They are very light, and not visible under normal room lighting. Turn on a bare bulb to find them if you can. Side 2 looks untouched. Labels have a spindle mark or two. Pressed into RCA’s deep-groove vinyl reserved specifically for movie soundtracks, this copy sounds magnificent, with deep back-to-front information as well as right-to-left stereo separation. A smooth playback! Sound quality is easily superior to the US issue on the lesser-quality vinyl assigned to RCA’s subsidiary label, Colgems.
